Hey Beautiful People! Finally the last week of January — feels like this month would never end. Nevertheless, I have checked in with myself, reflecting the past few weeks and making sure I am intentionally sourcing my needs. What I have discovered is in the past month, I have not experienced anxiety or depressive bouts, as I once knew them. I wouldn’t take it as far as saying I have been cured but, I have definitely gotten my mental health under control — thank you Jesus! I will not front like my new found perspective on life and rediscovery of my self worth has not been a main factor — because it has. Honestly, it’s probably 90% of the reasoning I am standing as I am today. However, if I can be honest, I’m pretty sure that 10% is all about vain. *Kanye shrugs* Let me explain.
Lately, I have been keeping my routine & wardrobe as simple as possible, which in return, has helped significantly with keeping my sanity in tact. Let me go back a little bit. Okay so, when I first went to therapy, it was intensive cognitive therapy and I was going 3 days a week for 6 months. Intense, to say the least. But, there I learned how to reframe and retrain my thoughts and in return, my lifestyle. Something as simple as doing my make up first before getting dressed has upped the stats of me getting out of the house. Something I once used to dred over — getting dressed, choosing an outfit, deciding on what character to be, who I should portray for the day was a daunting question to face every morning, before I left the house and sometimes even before breakfast. While getting back into society and relearning a routine that works for me, there was a serious need to not overwhelm myself during the process. So, I readjusted my routine by putting my make up on first, which made me confident enough to pretty much wear any outfit. At first I was scared I was going to rely solely on makeup to get out of the house but, I also knew I had to deal with one thing at a time and if this was going to help me, so be it. And thats what I did for a few years until it became a routine part of my lifestyle. I don’t even think twice about it anymore, I do make up first and then I throw whatever on to get dressed. Which leads me to the fact that I have been wearing black so much lately. For one, I have lost a lot of weight and refused to rebuy a whole new wardrobe because I’m pretty sure I’ll gain most of the weight back. I figured if I buy a few black pieces I can wear over and over again with different coats and no one would ever notice. Welp. That’s exactly what I have been doing. For the past 3 months, I’ve worn the same pair of high waisted black skinny jeans every day. I’ve switched out my black tops, maybe a crewneck today, maybe a turtle neck tomorrow — depends on how the wind blows. My pointy black ankle boots with gold accent buckles, a pair of bamboo earrings and my Monogram Coin Necklace from IV Jewelry are my everyday baes. The only item I switch out every day, depending on the weather, how Im feeling and where I’m going is my coat.
I have purchased around 5 coats this season, from a parka, to faux furs and puffers and I’ve pretty much got them down to which one is getting worn where. Typically, my faux fur leopard coat from Target is my everyday coat, as long as the weather permits — and I call it a day. This outfit has taken me from class, to errands, to nights in, nights out and everything else in between. You can’t go wrong with a high waisted pair of skinny jeans, pointy ankle boots with good details and an even better, coat.
The foundation works so, I can wear a t-shirt, hoodie to a sequins top and it will stick work. Not to mention keeping my outfit this simple, keeps my life simple and my mental health in tact. I thank God I haven’t experienced much anxiety in the past couple of months. If it has anything to do with wearing the same outfit over and over again, well — guess what you’ll catch me rocking in these streets?! At the end of the day, I choose me (over any piece out of my wardrobe) and it’s time to make the choices to show up for myself no matter what, in no matter what.Just curious though — what’s your every day outfit or an outfit that you don’t care about wearing everyday? Either works, haha. Not like I’m going to switch mine because if aint broke, aint no fixing 🙂 Hope you have an amazing week and make sure you stop by Instagram and let me know how it’s going.
